Now today went pretty close to what I expected. I expected Texas A&M to lose to Oklahoma by at least 20 points. I expected Texas to beat Texas Tech by a few scores. I expected LSU to beat Alabama by a score. What I didn't expect was that Texas would dominate Texas Tech 52-20, I also didn't expect LSU and Alabama to have the most boring game I've watched in a while, I mean come on 9 - 6, field goals? Really?
I think the Michigan/Iowa was interesting because I thought Michigan would just run all over Iowa, however I was wrong. I'm still a little fuzzy on how this happened but I'm assuming Iowa was simply a better "team". I highlight "team" because too much today do we just assume a player makes a team. In '05 Vince Young was the reason Texas won the national title never mind the other 21 starters on the field that tackled, blocked, caught passes, intercepted balls, forced fumbles, rushed for yardage, and kicked field goals. Robinson of Michigan and Griffin III of Baylor are perfect examples. If they go down, the team is no good, but how are both schools just above average this year with them. I think they are just the best bad players on a bad team and they standout. Sort of a polished turd on the manure pile if you will. However more and more teams that are winning lately are trying to duplicate that success that Mack Brown had in '05 with Vince, problem is they just don't have the weapons around their athlete QBs. If anything Mack Brown can recruit.
Lastly Oklahoma State narrowly escaped Kansas State tonight with a 52 - 45 win at home. I still think Oklahoma is going to dominate Oklahoma State in the rivalry game later this season, because Gundy and Okie State have been skating by... they have had 3 games decided by less than 14 points and those were Texas A&M, Texas, and Kansas State. I've known one thing in my short college football viewing life, the undefeated team at the end of the year didn't have but 2 close games; Championship Game and Rivalry game.
